Photosynthesis is primarily controlled by leaves, but other parts of the plant exposed to light can also develop chlorophyll and photosynthesize. CO2 is taken from the air for photosynthesis. Stomata allow this to occur. Plants absorb water through their roots and move it to their leaves through the xylem, then exhale oxygen as a waste product. A portion of this oxygen is used by the plant to respire.
