is that orange is an evergreen tree of the genus citrus'' such as ''citrus sinensis while tomato is a widely cultivated plant, solanum lycopersicum , having edible fruit.

Tomatoes are among these excellent sources of vitamin C, with some varieties containing concentrations comparable to those found in oranges. On average, however, oranges are much higher in vitamin C than tomatoes.

In the USA, the tomato is called 'the poor man's orange' because of its low price and high concentrations of vitamin C, as well as citric and malic acid.
