Help I'm so bad at writing

I'm writing in intro for my chem lab and I want to say "matter can be looked at by both its physical and chemical properties" but I don't want to use "looked at". What other word(s) can I use in place of those?

maybe something like "Matter can be viewed through due to both its physical and chemical properties."
