What were the social, political, and economic struggles faced by the labor force?

The labor force comprised of poor lower-class people who received little pay accompanied by dangerous jobs. They also didn't have strong voices in the political environment which was dominated by businessmen until the introduction of labor unions. They had poor social conditions and they had no free/social time due to long work hours.
