-It thrives during times of intense, or sustained, physical activity.

-The need for increased carbohydrates to sustain that extra level of exertion.

-It's the primary tissue in the human body with herculean strength which makes it very efficient at doing heavy work.

-It becomes rigid when it becomes depleted of oxygen, which is what causes cramping around muscles during intense bouts of exercise where you are doing something like sprinting or weight lifting too fast for your body to keep up through oxygenation alone. This is called anaerobic glycolysis - where there isn't enough oxygen present to use all the sugars being metabolized by your muscles even NEEDED by their quick contractions.
