Let x be the number.

Equation: x² + 8x - 100 = 0

2. Mr. Apoloan wants to lay out a rectangular playground which will contain 30 square feet. The desired length will be 7 times the width.

Area: 30ft²

Length: 7w

Width: w

Area of a rectangle: LW

(7w)w = 30ft²

Equation: 7w² - 30 = 0
