multiply both sides by kx
kux = x+y

add -x to both sides
kux+ (-x) =x+y+ (-x)

kux-x=y

factor out variable x
x(ku-1)=y

divide both sides by ku-1
x(ku-1) y
———- = ———
ku-1 ku-1

x= y
——-
ku-1
