Solution:

We know that:

\frac{\tex\text{Diamonds}}{\text{Emeralds}} = (3)/(4)

\text{Emeralds} = 16

Substitute the amount of emeralds in the ratio to find the amount of diamonds.

\frac{\tex\text{Diamonds}}{16} = (3)/(4)

\tex\text{Diamonds} = (3 * 16)/(4)

\tex\text{Diamonds} = (48)/(4) = 12

Thus, there were 12 diamonds.

(a)

girls to boys → 2 : 1

2 → 24

1 → 12

There are total 12 boys.

(b)

diamonds to emeralds → 3 : 4

4 → 16

1 → 4

3 → 12

There are 12 diamonds.
