Answer: I believe Ghiberti was the correctly chosen artist in this instance. Wether or not Brunelleschi was more established, the doors should have been commissed from the person who has better skills fitted to this one topic. If Ghiberti also had shown a personal link between He and the baptistery, that would just be the icing on the cake, that way He could see what they wanted better than somebody whom didn’t have a connection.
