In a cell, the Golgi body is like a truck that picks up products from a factory. This organelle (sometimes called the Golgi apparatus or Golgi complex) works very closely with the endoplasmic reticulum. It receives simple molecules manufactured by the ER and combines them into more complex molecules. These larger molecules are either shipped out of the cell or stored for later use. The Golgi body also creates lysosomes, sacs of digestive enzymes that break down the cell's food and waste.
