twelve bottles of water can fill 5/8 of a container to fill the container completely another six bottles and five glasses of water are needed how many glasses of water have the same capacity as the container

We have:

  • 12 b = 5/8c

and

  • 6b + 5g = c - 5/8c ⇒ 6b + 5g = 3/8c

From the first equation we get:

  • b = 1/12*5/8c = 5/96 c

Substitute b into the second equation:

  • 6(5/96c) + 5g = 3/8c
  • 5/16c + 5g = 6/16c
  • 6/16c - 5/16c = 5g
  • 1/16c = 5g
  • c = 16*5g
  • c = 90 g

So the container has same capacity as 90 glasses of water.
