Why was the Tennis Court Oath a significant event of the French Revolution?

Taking the Tennis Court Oath was a statement against the rule of the monarchy and France's Clergy and Nobility. People who took the oath said that they would follow the ideas of the Enlightenment. They called for the creation of a Constituent Assembly and a constitution for France.
