Since the figure is a rectangle, the length of the top of the figure is the same as that of the bottom. Thus, we can form an equation which we can later use to find the value of x.

4x +3= 16

Minus 3 on both sides:

4x= 16 -3

4x= 13

Divide by 4 on both sides:

x= 13 ÷4

x= 3.25

Breadth of rectangle

= 2x +2

= 2(3.25) +2

= 6.5 +2

= 8.5

Perimeter of rectangle

= 2(length +breadth)

= 2(16 +8.5)

= 2(24.5)

= 49 ft.
