A crane cable can support a maximum load of 18,000 kg. If a bucket has a mass of 4,000 kg and gravel has a mass of 1,500 kg for every cubic meter, how many cubic meters of gravel (g) can be safely lifted by the crane? Enter any fractions as reduced improper fractions.

The crane can safely lift up to ____ cubic meters.

  • Capacity=18000

Lifted amount be x

ATQ

\\ \sf\longmapsto 1500x+4000=18000

\\ \sf\longmapsto 1500x=18000-4000=14000

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=(14000)/(1500)

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=(140)/(15)

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=7.3

Let the cubic meters of gravel = x

Set up the equation:

4000 + 1500x = 18,000

Now solve for x:

4000 + 1500x = 18000

Subtract 4000 from both sides:

1500x = 14000

Divide both sides by 1500:

x = 14000/1500 = 140/15 = 28/3

Answer: 28/3
