meiosis goes through two division processes meiosis 1 and meiosis 2. during meiosis 1 the cell closely follows mitosis with very subtle changes in how the chromosomes interact. this creates 2 daughter cells each of which go through meiosis 2 and split again ending with 4 daughter cells each one unique from each other due to the chromosomes from each parent.
