what do you think scientists would do if suddenly a fossil was found that showed that we did not share common ancestor with apes, but were more closely related to lizards?

Answer:

The scientists would first do DNA tests to see exactly what species the fossils came from. They would then try to find similarities between the two specimens. For example, they would try to see if any organs or body functions acted the same with the lizards and the humans. This would continue for a while until they found lots of evidence supporting the hypothesis that we were evolved from lizards.
