Do the words “heaven” and “hell” need to be capitalized?

Proper nouns are capitalized, so yes. Or if the writer mentions Heaven or Hell in uppercase, you make them uppercase, if the writer makes them lowcase, you make them lowercase, but commonly they are not capitalized due to religious articles not getting a lot of good feedback.

Nope. They do not need to be capitalized being as they are a place that may or may not be true. In the Bible heaven and hell isn’t capitalized so the rule of thumb is that you don’t have too
