Islam is a religion observed by over 1 Million people. Islamism is the political ideology of small groups that use concepts like shariah and jihad from Islam and reinterpret them to gain legitimacy for their political goals.

Answer:

Islamism is the belief that Islam should guide social and political as well as personal life. Islam is a religion where the people who follow it are called Muslims. Muslims are monotheistic and worship one, all knowing god. Who in Arabic is know as allah.

So the difference is islam is a religion and islamism is one single belief. Islamism is a belief not a religion.
