Given that;

BE = 27 - 5x

DM= 5x - 3

On equating, we will have;

27-5x = 5x - 3

-5x-5x = -3-27

-10x = -30

x = 30/10

x = 3

Length of EC = 2BE

EC = 2(27-5x)

EC = 2(27-5(3))

EC = 2(27-15)

EC = 2(12)

EC = 24

Hence the length of a side is 24units
