Ebeneezer Scrooge in act 1 is very selfish and rude. He is seen as an anger filled brute who doesn't feel empathy towards others. This is shown in the way he treats the citizens in town, and his workers. In act 2 he has seen the ghosts and understands why his ignorance is a problem. He decides to be generous and help others for a change. He donates money and even allows his workers to have the holiday they deserve.
