How did Frederic Tudor come up with the idea of shipping
ice from cold to warm climates?

Tudor didn't come up with the idea of harvesting ice and storing it for ... had thought to ship the stuff to the places with warmer climates that could ... When the shipment finally arrived, no one was buying.

Frederic Tudor came up with an idea that was widely ridiculed 200 years ago: he would harvest ice from New England's frozen ponds and ship it to islands in the Caribbean. The mockery was, at first, deserved. His initial attempts, in 1806, to transport ice across great stretches of ocean were not promising
