to inform the reader about something that has happened, whether it be good or bad. the author might also want to warn readers to watch out for something. the author could also be wanting to share a story that they thought society would enjoy reading. in conclusion, they want the reader to understand the moral of the story and impact their life, they want the reader to learn a life lesson.
