What effects do the values of a and b have on the graph of the linear relation y = ax + b?

a is the coefficient of x. It changes the slope of the line/the steepness. The b changes the point where the line crosses the y-axis. For instance if we had the equation y = x + 4 then the function would cross at the point (0,4)
