Suppose that 20% of all students in a school make the Honor Roll. Which simulation best models a way to show how

students can be randomly selected and identified as being on the Honor Roll? WHY is that the best simulation?

A) Put 10 marbles in a bag, 8 red and 2 yellow. Draw out a marble at random 100 times, replacing the marble each
time.

B) Divide a spinner into 4 equal parts, labeled 1-4. Spin it 100 times. Let an even number represent Honor Roll and
an odd number represent not on the Honor Roll.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO STATE WHY

Answer:

A)

Explanation:

The problem stated that 20 percent got in honor roll.

The key word in the problem is randomly selected.

Out of a and b, it's simply crossing out one of them.

B doesn't make sense, since if you spun a spinner 100 times, each side would have a probability of 25 percent. And that's if you only used one of the parts as an odd number.

Another way to think of it is that there are 2/10 yellow marbles, and 8/10 red.

2/10=20 percent.

8/10=80
