However it may also be used to describe the solution to a system of equations which cross in one place. For example, if you plot

y = x + 1

y = -3x + 2

The ordered pair that gives the point where both equations equal the same thing is (0.25,1.25) The graph is shown below, and the ordered pair marks the solution.
