Answer: True. An electromagnet is a temporary magnet, in a model, there is a battery and a switch, when you flip the switch, electricity runs through the wires and onto the core. (The core is the magnet, aka rivet.)

Explanation: For this model, you would need a compass, magnet, switch pod and wires. (I apologize if I'm wrong.)
