It is very important for you to know your rights if you are ever charged with a crime. You have the right to obtain legal representation. Also, if you are questioned, you have the right to remain silent until you have spoken with an attorney.

It protects people from getting wrongfully arrested, and maintains the fact that you can be under investigation for a crime and not have to be in jail. It is important because a lot more people would be in jail than we already have. It also is important because it would help corruption if it was not there
