Why would someone need to know background of United States history to become a citizen?

Citizens have an obligation to know history because… Studying and knowing history allows us to grow and become stronger from events that occurred in the past. ... History is just one way for us to learn what it is that we as individuals can do to make the world we currently live in a better place for generations to come.
