Minimum wage workers in 2016 were working with wages established in 2009. Why is this a problem?

The year 2009 was particularly prosperous and the dollar went far.

Numerous expenses have increased since 2009 but wages have not.

The money earned in 2016 will not buy as much as it did in 2009.

New industries have emerged since 2009 and wages do not account for that.
