In general some oppose voter ID laws because they believe it targets minorities, and deprives many of being able to vote for simply not having the correct type of identification. These voters are disproportionately low-income, racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly and people with disabilities. These groups frequently have more difficulty obtaining ID because they cannot afford or cannot obtain the underlying documents that are a prerequisite to obtaining government issued photo ID.
