Many students were against the war in Vietnam, so they wanted the war to come to an end and bring the troops home. Expanding the war into Cambodia would have just dragged the war on longer than what those students wanted. The reason why Nixon wanted to bomb parts of Cambodia was because the Viet Cong fighters were using trails through that country to avoid getting bombed.
