The photo shows rural children during the Great Depression.

What is the best explanation for why these children are at home and not in school?

Without enough food, they did not have enough energy for school.
They no longer lived near the school because they lost the family farm.
The schools were closed because there was no money to hire teachers.
They had to work to help support their families instead of going to school.

I believe they had to stop going to school to support the family. But, since they didn’t have the energy, many families had lost there life’s due to hunger.
