Answer:

As a result of a period of unrest in India around the 6th century BC, Jainism and Buddhism emerged. The common people rejected the elaborate rites and sacrifices of the Later Vedic period. The cost of the sacrificial ceremonies was also determined to be prohibitively expensive.
