He tried to run the hotel to make sure he still had a source of income and was able to remain somewhat non-suspicious towards the Hutu military.

Step-by-step explanation:

If he stopped running the hotel, the Hutu would be able to take over, and hurt all the people. It would also be easier to take over. But if people were there as guests, the Hutus would back off.
