How did cotton exports add to the growing issue of slavery?

People were paying a lot for cotton because they needed it for clothing, therefore people bought more slaves so they could work in the feilds. after this the slave states grew due to the money that they were receiving for the slave's labor

The cotton became so profitable for the planters that it increased the demand of slave labor since the slaves would grow and pick the cotton. In 1790 there were six slave states; in 1860 there was 15.
