James needs to choose a cell phone plan. Sprint costs $40 per month and $0.12 per text message. Verizon is only $25 per month, but each text message costs $0.15. Write an equation that could be used to solve for how many texts he would have to send for the Sprint plan to be the same as Verizon.

Answer:

y = 40 + 0.12x

y = 25 + 0.15x

Explanation:

Hey Dylan! We're gonna use variable x to represent number of messages sent.

The $40 & $25 dollar payments won't be changed, so they can't have a variable applied to them.

Since it's 12 or 15 cents per text, that's where we wanna put the x.

Since both equations are equal to y, we can set them equal to each other.

40 + 0.12x = 25 + 0.15x

15 = 0.03x

x = 500 messages

Hope this helps! :)
