To support this statement he explained that one of the benefits of books is their ability to connect us with great thinkers.

Coming to think of it we see that this is true. If I read a book written by an author in a far away country, I will be able to have a glimpse of his thought processes. Thus, I can learn a thing or two from the writer and connect to him even though I am not close to him physically.
