This is a 45-45-90 right triangle

So we know that because at least one angle is 45 degrees and there is a right angle.

A 45-45-90 triangle has congruent (equal) legs {x} and the hypotnuse is

x√2

So using that information we know X = Y

Since they are both legs and legs are congruent in this case.
The hypotnuse is laid out for us which is 8.

We can make an equation.
Since the hypotnuse would be x√2

x√2 = 8

Now we solve.

You’d get 5.6528… or √32

X and Y both equal √32
