Mai poured 2.6 liters of water into a partially-filled pitcher. The pitcher now contains 10.4 liters. Mai wants to know how many liters of water were originally in the pitcher. Three of Mai’s friends drew a diagram (shown) to represent the problem.

Answer is Bard,
we know how much Mai poured in and how much water was already in the pitcher. Consequently X is the water that was already in the pitcher. Bard’s diagram lays the information out in the correct way.
