How many people were lost in the Civil War? Why do you think it was so bloody?

Approximately 600,000-800,000 soldiers died from both sides in the civil war. The war was so bloody due to the battles that would occur on battlefields (usually in broad daylight). The battlefields created this open area in which blood would be spilled on both sides.
