What happened in the years leading up to the civil war?

Answer:

Before the civil war, the South kept African American slaves to work their plantations. But then Abraham Lincoln passed a law condemning slavery. But the South didn't like that so they organized themselves and kept using slaves. They did this until the Northern forces came down to the south to try to intimidate the South into freeing the slaves, but they wouldn't free them, and then eventually, the war began.
