What would happen to a vascular plant if there were not structures to move the materials throughout the plant?

Vascular tissues of plant are xylem and phloem. If xylem will be damaged then plant will not be able to transport water from soil through roots to leaves. If phloem will be damaged then nutrients produced during photosynthesis will not be able to reach each and every part of the plant body.
