and throughout a large area of deep water. Estimates vary about the spill's impact on the life cycles of native
animals and plants. Fish may not be able to swim away from the oil. Their eggs may even be harmed. Scientists
found some animals covered in a thick coating of oil. They will be monitoring the Gulf's food chain for years.
