Archon, Greek Archōn, in ancient Greece, the chief magistrate or magistrates in many city-states. The office became prominent in the Archaic period, when the kings (basileis) were being superseded by aristocrats.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Greek democracy created In Athens was direct, rather than representative: any adult male citizen over the age of 20 could take part, and it was a duty to do so. The officials of the democracy were in part elected by the Assembly and in large part chosen by lottery in a process called sortition.
  • Archons are, in Gnosticism and religions closely related to it, the builders of the physical universe.
