I’m trying to do this equation but don’t know where the 2 came from when you square it. Can somebody explain where the 2x come from? The 2x on the right side

I’m trying to do this equation but don’t know where the 2 came from when you square-example-1

okay so at the bottom it says square both sides so you have to square (x+1). when you do that you're basically just doing (x+1)(x+1) and you just use the foil method and end up with x^2 + 2x + 1
