A German man, named Alfred Wegener, in 1915, noticed that continents like South America could fit perfectly into Africa. So, he made a theory called "Continental Drift", which was a theory that once, all of the continents were all connected. He also believed that over time, they moved based off of the inner earth. This sparked other scientists to make a better, more updated version of Wegener's theory called "Theory of Plate Tectonics" which explains that landmasses move based off of plate tectonics.
