A cell phone company charges $45 per month plus $10 per GB of data used above your limit. If your total bill was $79, write and solve and equation to find how much data was used above the limit?

x = 50 because x = number of text messages sent

0.2x+40=50

0.2x = 10

5(0.2x) = 5(10)

x = 50

Therefore, 50 text messages would have to be sent or received in order for the plans to cost the same each month.
