Answer:

(a)

Small = 28

Large = 42

(b)

Ratio = 14 : 25

Explanation:

Given

L = Large\\ S = Small

S : L = 2 : 3

Total = 70

Solving (a): Number of each set.

The small set is calculated as:

Small = (S)/(S + T) * Total

Small = (2)/(2+3) * 70

Small = (2)/(5) * 70

Small = 0.4 * 70

Small = 28

Using complement rule.

Large = Total - Small

Large = 70 - 28

Large = 42

Solving (b): Increase large by 8.

The ratio is then calculated as:

Ratio = Small : Large + 8

Ratio = 28 : 42 + 8

Ratio = 28 : 50

Divide by 2

Ratio = 14 : 25
