How did slavery shape social and economic relations in the Old South?

A: Slavery separated blacks from whites(social), African Americans started to develop culture of their own which separate from white people; slaves made their plantations profitable(economic).

How was the North affected by this "Peculiar Institution"?

A: North became industrialized and didn't need slave but the south did; for farming and slaves farming was profitable, but mostly the North wasn't really affected by the Peculiar institution; they didn't need slaves.
