so what you would want to do is get your fraction into improper fractions and to do that you multiply the whole number by the denominator and add it to your numerator, once you do that you get 5/4, and 35/6, now we want to get common denominators, so we multiply 5/4, by 6/6, and 35/6 by 4/4 which would get us 30/24 and 140/24 then we add them and get 170/24 and then simplify, which gets you 85/12 and then put it into a mixed number which is 7 1/12
